I agree with the later half of your statement. I however do not think reviews are not "broken" per se. When it comes down to things reviews are little more than personal opinion. Now a way to maybe better scores would be if everyone judged games on universal criteria. But again it all comes down to 1 single persons opinion on a video game.
I do agree that reviewers have to judge a game on it's own merits though. And not comparing it to other games. What does the game s...
No Lost Odyssey or Assassins Creed on this list? Both of them were great.
I think it's staring to become clear that Killzone 2 lives up to the hype. As someone said before on N4G yesterday "I think crows are extinct".
Like a defective condom.
Definitely agree with the majority of points you made/make. It's just for me i feel that way about some genre's losing their touch to suit to the current crowd a little more. It's essential and i get that, but i still don't like it. Doesn't change the fact that Res5 will probably be a awesome game.
Never played both gears/2. I played Re2 but not Res3. But i did play MGS2 and MGS3. MGS3 approved on a bunch of things and it had CQC, no more cones etc.
Now DMC4 was DMC3: HD editin. Another Capcom game. Like i said before there's a different between improving on the core mechanics of a game. And being a near carbon copy of a previous game but with a few tweaks.
Very true, but i wasn't even expecting Killzone 2 to be this good. Well i can't say for myself because i haven't played it yet. But it's getting a very warm response.
Nice score. It's surprising to see Killzone 2 getting all this love.
I'm glad i'm not the only one that see's RE4HD: Africa edition.
I definitely see your point and if it was a worthwhile tradeoff i wouldn't have as much of a problem with it. Honestly i'm not buying Res5 but i'am keeping a eye on it for curiousities sake.
I'm just not that big a fan of games seeming waterdowned from their former selves. Like i said with MGS4 losing most of it's stealth and now i see RE4 going away from survival horror. I only played Res2 and Res4 myself and i enjoyed them both. But i don't know it just feels like alot of mold...
I'm actually glad it's got the old "Stop and shoot" approach. I'm tired of older franchises getting maimed by the "new age standards". First MGS4 feels more like a third person shooter than an actual Stealth game. I know RE is going in that third person action game direction but at least it's delayed a little now.
This is about what i was expecting to read. A average single player with a great online component. The picture is starting to come together on Killzone 2 reviews. Basically everyone loves the multiplayer. Some people like the single player while others think it's nothing too special.
Everyone has said the A.I is good. Which was one of my main concerns with the game since the vids shown braindead A.I at convention shows. Though reviewers have been unsatisfied with the lack of co op.
I liked reading the review. Good details and paints a nice picture. But i'm surprised that the reviewer only gave Killzone a 8.7 considering all the good things he said about the game. I would have thought he would have gave the game a 8.9 after reading the review.
Also it's naggering at me that it's getting flak for not having Co Op. I mean besides maybe Gears 2, Halo 3, L4D, and Res5 i can't think of any other shooters that have Co Op in them.
Deus Ex would be the greatest of all time. At least in my humble opinion. And it's EXTREMELY hard to top it. It's why i never compare games to it. Unless someone compares a game to DE *looks at BioShock* will i then compare said game to Deus Ex.
Huh? This doesn't make any sense. It's not illegal and i was just playing SF2HD last night that i downloaded from a shared account i have with a few online buddies.
You might need a extra bucket or two.
Seriously. I'm surprised Killzone 2 is getting so many 9's and 10's. I thought that the game would get 8's and a few 9's.
Yun and Yang was unexpected. Maybe there's a sliver for hope in SF4: Turbo parry edition.
I don't know but it kind of just seems like he complained about the difficulty. The sometimes it was easier and sometimes it was harder. I for one like difficulty in games. He says it's not the A.I that's bad but it seems more like the overwelming number of enemies with sometimes a lack of perfect cover. I don't mind that myself but to each his own. I wonder how these smaller sites get a chance to play the online in some of these games.
Well 1up got synced in with UGO and over half the staff was cut. So i'm not so sure on how that'll go moving forward. I do also love how Kotaku reviews games. Precise and pro's and con's of a game with no score. Then there's always Frankenreviews.
edit: Thanks Unicron i unfortunately can't give you any more bubbles (i've been bubbling you up) but i do agree more times than not with your sentiments. Or at least see where you come from. Bubbles to you too Kaim. It's good to get so...
